If you’re like me, strapped for cash and unable to afford that FitBit, you’re probably looking for a cheaper alternative to track your heart rate and calories. I HIGHLY recommend the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor. There are newer models than this–and more expensive–but this model has the most reviews on Amazon, plus a stellar rating–not to mention the excellent price and sleek, stylish design. It comes in a variety of colors (pink and I are best friends). It’s also water resistant. And, of course, it makes for a handy watch to tell the time. The only downside is that it doesn’t track steps, but I’m not too concerned about that anyway.
A chest strap comes with it to help you monitor your heart rate as accurately as possible. Not only this, but your unique heart rate helps it to track calories more accurately. Those calorie counts you see on fitness equipment are simply estimates and do not take into account any individual factors, like your height, weight, or fitness level. So if you want accuracy with a great price tag, this watch is the way to go.
I bought this watch not only for myself, but I also want to be able to create unique cardio programs for future clients of mine. Since the chest strap is adjustable, easy to clean, and you can change the stats on the watch to fit any person, it’s the perfect piece of a equipment for personal trainers to add to their arsenal of fitness tests to design unique programs for clients. It’s so easy to use as well. All you have to do is input height, weight, and gender, and it’ll serve you up those unique stats of yours. I recommend wetting the chest strap, as per the directions, so that it can easily transfer the stats to your watch.
Overall, if you don’t want to spring for a pricey FitBit, this is your next best option.
